Home House Tours Amber’s Current House

Amber’s Current House

by Amber

Welcome to our current house!!  In August of 2015, we purchased our second home!  To say we were excited is an understatement!  However, let’s not jump ahead just yet, we went under contract in April of 2015 on a different house.  My husband Daniel and I planned to seamlessly move from our first house, into a new house, but everything doesn’t always go as planned, as we all know.

In what seemed like the blink of an eye we found ourselves moving into my husband’s parent’s guest room.  Thank goodness we have such a great family, they immediately opened their doors to us and our crazy 85 pound dog.  We had a POD packed up with half our belongings, and my in-laws garage filled with everything else in May.

So what happened??  We had some unexpected bumps in the road and ultimately decided it would be best for us to start looking for a different home, and preferably another new build.  We drove up our street without seeing a single photo of the house, pulled in the driveway, and got what we call “the warm and fuzzies.”  In the building phase still, we toured our house. It was a construction zone, but we knew we wanted to make an offer.

We quickly negotiated and set a closing date.  Since we made an offer so quickly, we were still able to customize some of the finishing touches, though we had to wait for the house to be finished before moving in.  We were able to: pick our floor stain, add cabinets in our laundry room, add wood stairs instead of carpet, add hardwoods in the upstairs hallway, add a light over the island, pick out our refrigerator, pick out all cabinet hardware, and our personal favorite, have our builder install all our blinds (best builder ever).

Since moving in August of 2015, we have accomplished a lot.  The biggest change is definitely in our backyard! We had no idea what we were getting into with the yard, but take the full tour below and I hope you enjoy.

Before: This is about two weeks before the house was finished, everything was done outside except the garage door.

Currently: We added two trees, aerated and seeded the yard, removed and replaced all bushes, added a fence, flags, porch railings (CO required them), and decor.

Currently: We have updated the lighting up the stairs, hung a giant American flag (#2), added art, and an entry table for all our dog’s stuff.

Currently: We haven’t done much with this space, but I have big plans in the near future. We purchased a media stand, replaced our accent chairs and hung art, everything else was from our first house.

Currently: We have added art, purchased rugs and decor, replaced the light over the sink, and learned all about taking care of butcher block counters.  Other than that everything is the same as when we moved in.  The island is one of my favorite parts of our entire house.

Currently: We switched out our light, added rugs, wash board decor, and prints.

Before: We were able to pick our floor stain, this was about a week before we moved in.

Currently: This room is very much in progress…we replaced the light, were gifted a buffet, hung a clock, sold our old dining table and are now in a major transition.

Plan: To paint, add new wall treatments, purchase a new table, paint the buffet, and maybe add some shelves.  Still thinking on this one, check back soon.

Currently: We purchased new bedding, added art, and curtains.  Keeping it simple here.

Before: Yellow walls with cream cabinets.

Currently: We painted, added rugs, wall art, and a towel hook. Check out the makeover here.

Currently: My husband surprised me and helped update this bathroom for my birthday, details here.

Before: We started with one desk and more yellow walls.

Currently: We painted the walls, painted my desk, added curtains, purchased desk chairs and lamps, added art (still need to update the frames above my desk), and built a bookshelf.  Click here for details.

Currently: We haven’t really done anything to this room yet other than add furniture and decor that we used in our last house.

Before: This space started as the bonus room, then transitioned to the guest room since it was bigger.

Currently: We painted, got a bed, dresser, side tables, bedding, and hung curtains.  Still working to finalize this room but we have made a lot of progress, check it out here

Currently: You can tell we are in progress with this one and I’m very excited about what we planned to do.  Check back soon.

Before: Yellow walls with cream cabinets.

Currently: We painted the walls, frosted the window, installed a shiplap wall, and added/ changed decor.  Check out the details here.

Welcome to our little slice of heaven!  We may have favorite rooms inside the house, but our favorite place to be is outside!  We have wonderful weather 3/4 of the year, and we take full advantage of it.

Before: We had a ton of work to do and it has taken us almost 2 years to get to the current point.  August 2015.

In progress: We had the fire pit and retaining wall part 1 installed and we were trying to grow grass. April 2016.

Currently: It looks like this.  We did the following: removed 12 trees, added a fire pit, sprinkler system, plants, retaining wall part 2, outdoor shower, fence, under deck fencing, wood garden box, decor, DIY dining table, and added a patio around the fire pit with a pathway to the deck.

So that’s all, if you have questions don’t hesitate to ask.

I am in love with the paint color in your 1/2 bath and guest bath! What are the names? I want to know more about how to do bead board and ship lap too. Love what all you’ve done so far!

Thank you so much! The 1/2 bath color is called Salty Dog by Sherwin-Williams. The guest bath color is a little more complicated. I had Lowe’s custom create that color so it doesn’t have a name. However, check back in a few weeks and I will be posting the color formula they used. You could take that info to your local Lowe’s to have a sample made. That same post will also have a tutorial on how we installed shiplap 🙂
